The loose references to Magical Creature are errors holding over from when Pantherghasts (the only standard Extra-Planar monster) were Magical Creatures and Extra-Planar wasn't an actual thing. Because Summoning rituals require catalysts and aren't often super useful it's not shocking they're behind the times, considering that we just finally got the text in <Monster> Slayer fixed last year, a decade after the fact.
