Website!

After much work and effort, the Alliance Seattle website is live! We mentioned it in a Facebook post just over a week ago, but it never made it to the forum. You should check it out at www.alliance-seattle.com, or click the "Alliance Seattle" banner above! We're working on a few new features, but if you see any typos or have any other feedback, we'll work on addressing it.

Right now, we're working on adding a Gallery. We're also aware of a possible issue when viewing the site with Chrome.

A little bit of website feedback:

The Good:
  • I love the layout! The locations of a majority of the items seem to be located in intuitive places.
  • I appreciate the Facebook feed.
  • The calendar of events is convenient for finding out what is coming up.
  • The amount of information is great!
  • The color scheme of the new website and the new Alliance Seattle logo are awesome.
  • The cycling through upcoming events on the front page is a cool feature.

The Criticism:
  • Need more pictures! Walls of text make the site look ... boring. Besides, there is only so much you can describe about LARP before people immediately think "Kingdom of Nerds, the Geekening". More pictures show that this hobby is (a) fun, (b) imaginative, (c) active (like a good picture of someone running for their life from a pack of creatures ... or chasing creatures), and (d) does not consist of primarily socially awkward folks.
    • Along the lines of pictures, embedded videos might be cool. Such as some demonstrations or even some videos of combat from a small module. And to promote more folks to bring the families a video of a Page mod might be good PR. :)
  • A list of recent events (three months back) would be helpful for those folks wanting to back blanket.
  • The Logistics section still lists me as one of the focals. Can that please be changed to the correct personnel?
  • A paypal link to quickly either back blanket or prepay for an event would be convenient.
  • For FAQs and Q&A pages I recommend making the website easier to read. Some suggestions include using a different color or size of font for the questions. As it is now it all kind of blends together which makes skimming to find your particular question challenging.
    • The same goes for instructional type pages (such as the "Registration" page). Having it all one format makes it challenging to find the important information since there is a lot of explanation in each page.
    • A good example for some good formatting (in my opinion) is the Rules page.
  • An actual link to the Facebook Group page might be good. I would recommend putting it in or around the Facebook feed.
  • A link to the Facebook pictures might be cool. Or, a link to a photo book.

:)

A while ago, I was planning on doing a intro to Alliance web series. Anyone have a good video camera? Also if you have a legit costume and would like to be in it, that would be rad. I would write, direct, and edit.

For some reason, I keep picturing something involving a lot of zooming in and out and rotating for Ron's intro video.

I'll discuss with Matt about what we can do with PayPal linkiness. I've used their API before on a previous project, so we could potentially whip something up.

Jimmy, you forget the most important part of the video...

Transitions with star swipes.

Oh yes and 3D lettering with words. Can't forget that.

I'm happy to help out with videos. Whee!

We should also link our fantastic video from the Darkness fight!

I'd be happy to work as a grip for the video, my costume isn't so hot, but I'm pretty good when it comes to set work and keeping stuff organized.
