This is information that some know, some do not, and others don't know the full purpose. So as far as I can interpret what I've been told by those of the Chalice, of the Unseelie and the Reapers, here is the truth of the world.
Avana is everything, and everything is Avana. All spirits upon the Expanse come from Avana. All life is imbued with these spirits, with her. When the cycle of the spirit is over, Avana recalls those spirits to her. I speculate she gains new power when parts of her return to her, if not at least what she had lost previous.
This is why Spirits of those who are not Unbounded do not resurrect. There was, isn't and won't be multiple resurrections because the spirit belongs to Avana.
However, one Court has been blocking Avana from gaining power by snatching those Spirits upon the return trip, The Sovereign of the Empty Chalice. The millions of Spirits within his court lay dormant, protected by Avana's tendrils that try to reclaim her essence. For centuries The Chalice has prevented this, until recently.
With Avana gaining strength she moved against The Chalice; and she was winning. That was until those of the Unbounded who fell within The Expanse gave up a bead, an echo of their spirit to repair the leyline. 28 Spirits were given with tales of how they fell, and 28 will used to ensure Avana did not reclaim and shall not reclaim her spirits.
For those that have seen The Sovereign, I know his visage is emptiness and that void is frightening, but it is not evil. Since the Unbounded arrived those who have permanently died have retained their individuality as shades within the Chalice, as opposed to statues. We have influenced The Sovereign and continue to do so.
There are still 4 Leylines of the Courts left to fix in our fight against Avana. Know that with The Chalice repaired, millions of spirits will not be consumed by her and turned into an endless Light army.
