I know there are several production skills which a player can officially be considered a 'Master' at once they have purchased enough ranks, but is there a consensus on how many ranks would need to be taken in a particular Craftsman skill before the player could likewise be comfortably called the same?
 
The rule book list 10 as pretty good for your trade. Also the new Ritual Jack of All Trades gives you benefits for 10 ranks.

But a consensus could be tricky. Personally, 10 is pretty good.
 
From the 1.3 Alliance Rule Book pg. 93, and there isn't any change in 2.0 as far as I can tell: "... if you have purchased that particular Craftsman skill ten times, then you're one of the top [...] around," so 10 is a pretty good benchmark. I haven't looked this up before with 20 levels of a single craftsman before... no really.

In Denver we keep 20 ranks of Craftsman other still makes a master at that craft, and 10 ranks a Joureyman.
 
If your the only one that can do it, any amount of ranks will do
