Main Site Amenities

Greetings All,

Well, after a chilly walk-through of our main site this weekend, I wanted to share the following information with you in regards to the site's amenities.

First and foremost.....Sleeping: There are 3 Cabins which sleep 12 people each. The beds are your basic metal frame bunks with thin "camp style" mattresses on them. Each of these cabins have their own Wood burning Stove for heat. These cabins do not have a ton of room in them. Plenty of room for the bunks and people, but I would advise against bringing 4 trunks of stuff to the first event, until we all get a feel of how we will fit. There is also a seperate large building which sleeps approximately 16. Same style bunks with mattresses as the cabins. This building is really cool, but is NOT heated. So for the April event, there MAY be an IG benefit for being a brave spirit to sleep in this building. The "mess hall" or Tavern as we will be using it, is a pretty large building with both a wood burning stove and a working fireplace for heat. We will be allowing PC's to sleep here as well, though you would do well to bring air mattresses or the like, as the floor is concrete. Obviously there is plenty of room for tents to be set up and a few areas that have roofs, but no walls for inclimate weather. Sleeping arrangements will be first come first serve for the first event. As this is a new chapter, and based on the overall theme of the game, we have't decided yet on allowing reserved sleeping areas. This would apply to bunks only. If you want to reserve a specific tree to pitch your tent under, you can definitely do that.

The site itself is a very large nicely wooded area. Obviously we saw it snow covered, but it was beautiful as such, so i can only imagine it gets better with greenery.

THERE ARE NO MAJOR HILLS.....sorry Caldaria folks, I know you'll miss the hill, but I look forward to getting my calf workouts at your events. WOOT!

Other Amenities: The overall site has a few single standing showers in some areas. These showers are outside hut-style showers. There is however at least one shower building which has 6 showers in it. For the April event, the site manager has informed us that he can not guarantee that the water to the showers will be on. We will confirm this with him in the near future. For the summer events, it should be fine. Additionally, as this is a Boy Scout camp, there are no seperate mens and womens showers. Please bear that in mind.

Toilets: Again, there are outside hut-style free standing toilets. The site manager referred to them as "out-houses", which is pretty much what they are. Not actual plastic porta poties, but wooden shack style buildings with one toilet in it. These are scattered about for your using pleasure.

Fire pits: I saw one firepit near a sleeping cabin, which is fine to use as per the site manager. Most buildings have stoves or fireplaces. There may be more fire-pits around, (under the snow). The Alliance NH staff will be meeting to discuss, among other things, the IG use of these firepits. I myself would love it, but we have to consider safety and practical use. We will post more later on this subject.

The Mess hall building has a full commercial kitchen, which we will be utiizing portions of to feed you all. Bear in mind that the food served at Deadlands will be simple and yummy. Nothing too fancy, we want to stay true to the IG atmosphere. The staff will also discuss PC use of the kitchen and we will get back to you.

Electricity: I believe the main sleeping cabins do have electricity. I.e., there were lights in the cabins, but I didn't think to look for outlets. I did ask the Site Manager about power outages at the camp and he didn't feel it would happen. However, as I know that some people like to bring, Heaters, microwaves, plug-in lamps, etc., we may limit the use of electrical equipment to prevent any major problems. We will get back to you on this also.

Smoking: The camp does have a designated smoking area, although it seems to be in the middle of the IG areas. We may move the smoking area for your gaming pleasure, once we determine what will be done where.

At this point in time, we would ask that all PC's arrive on site no earlier than 6 pm on Friday April 18th. This will ensure a good beginning to the game for everyone. If you plan to arrive earlier, (and we strongly recommend that you be patient, and wait till 6pm), please contact me to let me know, so that we can usher you to a specific location. This will allow us the proper set up time, and allow you to experience things for the first time IG instead of OOG. Trust me on this. Also, if you do arrive earlier than 6, you may not be allowed to set up in a cabin. This is subject to change.

For those of you that would know, this camp site is not nearly as rustic as the old Syraandor site was, but is not nearly as "comfy" as say Caldaria or Ashbury. Please bear that in mind.

For April, no matter where you play, IT WILL BE COLD! Please plan accordingly, and then add an extra layer of warmth than you would expect to need.

That's all for now.

Feel free to post with any questions!

~Jaimi

I am throwing Deadlands the horns right now. Just so you know.

Aaaah I'm so excited. Out of curiosity, if we plan on using the wood stoves, should we be bringing our own wood and such or is there a stock on site that we have access to?

This is not for my own benefit, but for that of those who will be NPCing:

What is the NPC camp situation? Is there an unmentioned building set aside to be dedicated to logistics and NPC use?

Those folks that will be greening up for you folks all weekend may want to know what sort of accommodations to expect.

-Shane

(It actually took me three tries to get the spelling of "accommodations" correct - stupid double M!)

Sounds lurvly! Can't wait. I like the "huts" with a single toilet in them. Thank the Lord they're not plastic portapottys! That would look odd and weird to have to explain IG HEHEHEHEH Little wooden huts are much more IG friendly! Thanks for braving the winter coldness to check out our "digs"!

Okay,

I honestly didn't ask, because i was assuming that they would supply the wood for the stoves. I will check on that, but honestly I think they'll take care of that.

NPC Situation: Sorry to leave that out. Yes there is a large heated building with a private bathroom that will be used for Logistics and NPC camp. As we saw it, there were a few couches in it and some room around the edges for I would say Twin Size Air mattresses. There were a few other buildings around that we didn't get to see because of the weather when we went, but I will confere with Gary and we will make sure the NPC's are taken care of, of course, for sleeping arrangements.

~Jaimi

One more thing,

The site manager has said to me that AT LEAST one shower will be on for the April event. So unless he lied, there will be that. And, as Jaimi said, there is a good chance that another building with six showers will be on by April 18th.

I suggest that NPCs bring sleeping mats, and just to be safe, everyone should bring lots of blankets, because it will be April, and you never know. But then again, you're LARPers, you're bad *** and well prepared, not unlike the boy scouts who have provided this site, so I'm sure you'll be well prepared.

:D

Thanks for making sure the question was asked :)

I agree with Kelsey, thanks for bringing that up Shane. As I was reading I kept thinking, "but what about the NPCs" I am very excited about the new site and I hope to do alot of exploring when we all finally get there.

going to love the full kitchen!!! Love it lol!!! Thought i was going tobe cooking over a candle lol!!!

one cup of tea at a time! hehehehe

LOL....sorry NPC's, I didn't mean to leave you out.

As a side note, we will be doing another walk through at the site and I will take more notes for you all. I can't guarantee that I will share these notes, as some of them will be determining where to put the executioner's block....er....earth circle, yeah, that's it.....earth circle. heh. Seriously, if anyone wants to know anything more specific, post here and if we can answer it, we will.

Also, Mike and Jena....who says you won't be cooking over a candle. We do want this to have as much of an IG feel as possible you know....lol.

~Jaimi

I was telling mike there were lots of fire pits and fire place and woodstove in the tavern and he says "I can use a woodstove!" so he was excited to have that...the fact that there's a real kitchen was beyond excited and ventured towards the borders of blissful...he belongs on iron chef i swear..

secret ingredient...........................

PICKLED PIGS FEET!!!!

Has there been any update to what is available at site? I know there was talk of a second walk through.

There will be a third walk through on Sunday. The second one didn't involve keys, so we couldn't get to a number of things.

There will be a kitchen. The will be a tavern. There will be a number of bunks. The cabins have wood stoves, and electricity. There is at least one shower available at this time. There should be six additional ones ready, so long as the ground doesn't stay frozen.

More info coming early next week.

I just have one thing to say to those of you who are coming to the Kingston Site and you're not used to New Hampshire/Mass/CT roads

BRING MONEY FOR TOLL BOOTH!!!!!!!!!!

If you're like me and you have auto deposit and you pay for EVERYTHING with your debit or credit card...the toll booth doesn't take them :(

UPDATE: 4-7-08

We did another site walk through and the snow is almost completely gone, so we got to see more than previously. Here is some more information for you all:

PC Cabins: There are at this point at least 4 PC cabins available. They all have at least 12 beds in them. I can confirm that 3 of them have woodstoves. They also have electricity. The site manager has told us that we can burn whatever wood was already stocked in the cabins and we can also burn whatever wood we find on the ground. There will be NO CUTTING OF TREES, BRANCHES, or SAPLINGS!!! No Cutting of wood at all, unless it's already dead and on the ground and just needs to be cut to fit in the stove. I can not stress this enough!. I recommend that you bring your own wood. Some of the cabins have wood, but it wasn't a lot. Once everyone has picked their cabin, we will have a staff member come to each cabin and instruct on the use of the woodstoves. We ask that one person in each cabin, take responsibility for the safety and use of that stove.

NPC Cabin: We have confirmed that there is another heated cabin that will be used solely for NPC's. As above, it has heat, lights, electricity and sleeps 12. There will probably be room for a few with air mattresses on the floor in here as well. there is also some room in NPC camp, (seperate building) for additional NPC sleeping arrangements.

There will be plenty of room in the Tavern for people to sleep. See info on the first post of this string for those details.

Firepits: There are firepits scattered around. For now, we are not allowing use of them. With the numerous wood stoves and fireplaces available indoors, we don't want to add the risk of open flames in open areas where combat will take place. So please do not use the firepits outside.

Smoking: There is a designated covered area for smokers which will have a "butt can". Please use the can for cigarette butts and NOT trash. Thank you.

Cleanliness: Our Motto: "Leave It Cleaner Than You Found It". The people allowing us to rent this site are amazing. They have been incredibly accomodating and helpful. We would like to maintain this relationship for the duration of our time with them. To that end, I ask that people bring a little dustpan and broom and sweep out their cabins at the end of the event. Pick up any stray packets and trash you find lying about, specifically around your cabin. I know that we are all used to this procedure and are very good at cleaning up after ourselves, but I just want to reiterate that with the thousands of packets being thrown and the dirt and mud that gets brought inside the buildings, please do your part to clean up. We would really appreciate it.

We will be handing out a list of the campsite rules and hopefully a site map, to people when they arrive.

When you do arrive, you will find that on all the buildings will either be an IG sign or an OOG sign. You must adhere to this. There aren't many buidlings on the site that we can't use, but we will be marking the ones that are available for use and the ones that aren't. Do not enter any building that is listed as either OOG or off limits.

Also, there is a site manager that will be staying on site. We were told that nothing will wake him while he sleeps, but he may be around while the game is going on, and we must leave him be and do what he asks. I honestly don't think this will be an issue, but he will have a cabin, (listed as off limits or OOG) and will be on site. Just so you all know.

We still ask that PC's show up no earlier than 5-6 pm. When you arrive at the parking lot, there will either be an NPC or a staff member to escort you to the cabins. You can pick the cabin you want, we will just be getting you to the general area. We are not assigning cabins to anyone.

We can still confirm that there will be one shower working. The site manager said the ground is still frozen, so no guarantees that the other 6 showers will be working in April.

IT WAS COLD!!!! Bring you warm stuff.

That's all folks.

~Jaimi

and extra socks...although there will be fires for drying clothes...my feet froze...of course i was only wearing chux so its possible that proper LARPing boots will keep you warmer...

I know it sounds like I am being a goof but this is a dead serious question that I need to know the answer to:

Do we need to bring our own TP?
