I Hate PM Receipts

I have come to the realization that I abhor PM receipts.

I don't want people to know when or if I've read their PM. I often read things but don't have time to reply to them right away, and it makes me uneasy to imagine the reception of the receipt on the other end. Do they wait for the response, then get pissed off at me as they realize that I read their message but am (apparently) ignoring them? Do they even notice, or do they just click "Yes, request a receipt" by default?

I noticed today that I have gotten into the habit of denying receipts for all PMs. I don't want to encourage the things. But it's an extra click! That little popup window gets annoying and jumps in the way when I don't want it to. Go away, little receipt window! Nobody loves you! I hope you go and die!

Please, share your stories. Do you appreciate PM receipts? Do you hate them as much as I do?

If you've sent me a PM recently, don't feel bad or feel that I'm singling you out. This is something that has been building for some time. But now, it's time for us PM-receipt-haters to unite. Down with PM receipts! Viva le Reveloucion!

Personally, I don't mind them. I don't harbor ill will toward not getting a response, I would just like to know if the message got through or not. If the person choses not to reply that is fine...I just want the messenger to ride back into town and say that he did deliver the message. EG;

A message sent to Polare...Horseman rides out with said message, returns a couple of days later and informs me he delivered the message to Polare. I find great comfort in knowing that my message got through (lines of communication are still open) and the fact that Polare was still alive to get my message. If he does not reply, so what! I'm not going to chastise him for not replying...He is an adult and busy.....I just want to know that the system is working.

My two cents.

I just hit cancel on everything. If I'm going to reply, I do it right away. If I'm not, or, shoot, if I'm just deleting it without even reading it, cancel.

mmmm delete.

I agree with Evad.
As annoying as they are, I kinda like to be able to be like:
"Okay, they got my message, the internet (unreliable as it is sometimes) has proved itself once again. I'll wait for a response"
Versus:
"Should I send another one? The internet occasionally loses messages sent here or there..."

Thats my 2 cents..

I dislike them as well, and I know there is a way to turn them off, but I cannot seem to locate it.

Our message board and server are reliable. If you send a message and you get the 'message sent' screen, then it went through and anyone who says otherwise is likely trying to cover for not having responded.

Meh, I have way to much time on my hands to worry about the half second it takes to hit [Esc], and care way too little to actually track down receipts. I suppose the only question is how much space the receipt system takes up in total on the server.

Don't pay attention to the little things. . . they're just another time waster in my opinion.
