Drive a little further to play at a castle?

Would you drive the extra distance to play with a castle?

  • What kinda stupid question is that? Do whatever it takes but get me in that castle!

In case it effects your vote please consider the following.

1.) The site would be near Brainerd Minnesota, or about 90 minutes to 2 hours north of current sites.
2.) The internal areas of castles include full showers bathrooms etc.(with blow-dryers even ^.^) (this might not be a good thing, as they bathroom facilities are modern)
3.) It's not an Actual castle, but it is a castle styled, 3 floor structure with a center building, with a small field between it and a functional wall. (the wall can/could be manned)
4.) The cost of the site is a bit higher so the cost of the event may be slightly higher based on attendance (no more then $5-10 dollars more then usual)
5.) Plot reserves the right to use the castle however they see fit - mwa ha ha.
6.) The castle is fully heated for comfort/safety.

Please note there is NO GUARANTEE this will happen even if everyone votes yes for a few reasons, I'd have to get ahold of the camp and reach a rental agreement with them, and I'll have to clear the use of the camp with the National structure as it's outside of the chapter's technical territory.

If we do start to use it, we'll likely add the camp to our year rotation and utilize it once or twice a year at most. Currently we are considering it's use for one heck of an opener.

Notes and questions welcome just post below!

questions.... are there places to sleep other than the castle? cabins to make like a town? are there woods nearby to game in? if not i think it would only be cool for an event or two. i like going into the woods to play. also are there tons of breakables in the castle? -dawson

I grew up at this camp, I was a tag-a-long little sister for my brother's Cub Scouts. I have not been there since the castle was built. I have found memories and would go up to the sight just to see it again. Count me as a yes.

It's a boy scout camp we'd have the surround area to play in, and the potential to someday rent out cabins as well, but we'd need to see consistent turn outs to afford it. The Castle sleeps 50-80 easily (it's HUGE) and there is not intend to be more then a once or twice a year site regardless due to its distance and cost.

I'm gonna vote YES on this.

Granted, an extra hour and a half driving up north will be a pain, but for a site like that? No contest.

Perhaps rent out one cabin for monster camp?

Oh, and Seamus - so you're my lift up next season? :)

Lol the castle is expensive, but it does have multiple floors apart from the bunk room so it should be easy enough to find a space for monster camp, that said if our current trends continue it may very well soon be possible to have both cabins and a castle.

OMG!

Make my girly fantasy come true!!! Please! :D :D :D :D

To LARP in a castle would be like a dream!!!

I love wrapping up the day with a nice warm shower... I would so pay alot extra for that

Heck yes. $5-10 is a very reasonable price to pay for the lux upgrade. I'd even be willing to bunk up with the crowd for this if need be which brings up my next q, what would be the rule on tents?

Are you kidding me? I'd be taking like half the room then... although that -would- solve the problem of rain & having no stakes.

*jumping up and down all jingley-like* Make it happen! Make it happen! :D <3

oh heck yeah!!!!!!!!!!
Dave i can't submit a response. T~T this forum hates me.

I wonder what crudgemudjin choose the 'it's just a castle' option :-p Although I suppose there's alot to be said for a dependable location.

My guess.... Tieran saw the poll.

Dawson was telling me about this the other day. On further inspection, my heart has started beating uncontrollably. WE NEED THAT CASTLE.

...then we can have some jerk at every game saying "Have fun storming the castle!"
