Costuming

I've read that there are a few people out there who know or are folks that can make armor/costuming/etc for more reasonable fees then most Renaissance/LARP clothing stores. I've found a look that I'm aiming for with my character, some of this would need additions to appear more barbaresque (fur pelts, fur cover for belt maybe, etc). I have someone already commissioned in crafting a leather cowl for me, however, I wouldn't mind having a wool or heavy cloth one for cold spring/fall evenings. The gear below totals over $500, so I'm definitely looking for a more competitive price range. If anyone is interested is some work, or knows someone who might be, please feel free to respond to this post or e-mail me at garett.ordway@gmail.com. Thanks!

For that style belt, you can go to just about any leather shop and buy the belt blank, dye, conchos, punch and buckle for like $60, and have enough dye left over plenty of other projects!
And if it's a Tandy, they probably have classes and/or can show you how to dye the leather.

If you're considering that Jerkin for armor points, it's pretty light leather and probably will get you 1 pt. per location. To get 2 pts per location, it has to be 10 oz. leather or heavier, at a marshal's discretion.

Try NPCing a game or two, and ask people where they got thier costumes, or who made them. Plenty of chapters have someone who's good with leather, or sewing, you just have to ask around!

Mike (who's PC is Drenten, who will be NPCing the season) is really good with leather as is Mike (who's PC is Eliden, a wild elf). Ocean (his PC's name, a mystic wood elf) is really good with making cloaks and such.

Thanks for the tips. I've actually been playing the game for awhile, so no out of the ordinary reason to NPC. I recently went through a race change so I think it's a good time to change up my costume and add more to it. I'll definitely be asking around at next weekend's event. I'd also love to do more crafting of costuming myself, but with family, work, and working on my bachelor's degree, I'd have to cut out sleep entirely. ;)

And now the three body locations are doubled, so 1pt leather is actually 2pts per location on upper chest, lower chest, and back, so that jerkin would actually get you 7pts as is counting the shoulders as 1pt. It wouldn't take much to add some heavy rings or studs to it and bring that up to 14pt either if you needed it.

The leather jerkin is mainly for the look, I'm not overly concerned with armor as much as I am with comfort and mobility. Thanks for the tip anyhow!

And don't forget the head is doubled as well.
