THE ANNUAL DUCAL TOURNAMENT of ASHBURY

SATURDAY, 19th of FERRET, 614

It is my utmost honor to present Ashbury’s Annual Ducal Tournament of 614. His Grace, Sir Nevin Kendrick, Duke of Ashbury, has wisely chosen to host the tournament in the estate of R’kura in the Barony of Corrheim. Lady Aubry Darksun and Raven Nevermore have opened the doors of their Flameheart Keep to the citizens of our fair Duchy as the venue of the tournament. Participants and attendees of the tournament are fully expected to observe the just laws of the great Kingdom of Icenia, but also to respect the due authority of Mister Nevermore and Lady Darksun on their land.

I, His Grace’s court-appointed Seneschal, will be overseeing the organization of the tournament and its events on behalf of Duke Nevin Kendrick. Those who wish to participate in the tournament must enter within a team. For the purposes of entrance evaluation, a “team” is defined as “any cohesive group of people unified under a common name and heraldry.” Teams that wish to participate are urged to notify the tourney organizers ahead of time for the sake of due preparation.

The organized tournament events along with their respective times, rules, and regulations are as follows:

COMMENCEMENT (COLORS)
11:00AM

Participating teams will present their team members, their heraldry, and their team name for review by the Duke and his staff. Though gifts to the Duke are customary, they are not necessary. Teams will be assessed according to their uniform coordination, routine synchronization, and etiquette. A single team will be elected the winner.

HERO’S COMBAT
12:00PM

Each team presents a single champion to compete in a series of duels against each other team’s champion in round-robin format. The combatant to defeat all others will take first prize.
Participants are required to know at least one melee weapon skill.
Participants may use a single one-handed weapon, a single two-handed weapon, two one-handed weapons, or a single one-handed weapon with a shield or bow for blocking.
Participants may use physical armor only.
Participants may not use archery, magical skills, magical items, or alchemy of any kind. Weapons may be subject to spot-checking for alchemical coatings.

THREE-MAN TEAM
1:00PM

Each team presents three warriors to compete against another team in combat. This event is a form of “Capture the Flag;” opponents must either seize the opposing team’s flag and return it to their flagpost, or eliminate the entire opposing team.
Participants are required to know at least one basic weapon skill.
Participants may use physical armor only.
Participants may not use magical skills, magical items, or alchemy of any kind. Weapons may be subject to spot-checking for alchemical coatings.

ICENIAN STANDOFF
2:00PM

Each team fields as many archers as they would like from their roster, but all combatants stand for themselves. Only archery is allowed, whether bow or crossbow, and archers may carry as many quivers as they deem necessary. The last man or woman alive or unyielding will take the grand prize; second-to-last will take second prize.
Participants are required to know basic archery skills.
Participants may use physical armor only.
Participants may not use any melee weapons, magical skills, magical items, or alchemy of any kind. Arrows and bolts may be subject to spot-checking for alchemical coatings.

SURVIVAL
3:00PM

Each team sends a pair of hunters into the woods with a list of things, objects, and questions and has a short amount of time to gather as much on the list as they can. Each team is released simultaneously, so it is a race as much as it is a hunt. No combat is allowed against other hunters.

RITUAL PERFORMANCE
4:00PM

Each team will be given a ritual of a school of their choosing and the components to power it. They will be rated on not only the successful casting of the ritual, but the inclusion of the rest of the team and the aesthetics of the casting itself.

ENTERTAINMENT
5:00PM

Participating teams are to elect a single or multiple representatives to perform before the tournament audience and judges. Participants are free (and indeed urged) to exercise utmost creativity in their choice of performance. Participants will be evaluated according to their performance’s originality, creativity, preparedness, and the audience’s response.
All combat is prohibited from this portion of the tournament.

Any evidence of cheating or corruption will be swiftly met with expulsion from the tournament and lawful punishment if necessary.

The Ducal Tournament will conclude with a grand feast, during which the judges’ panel will announce the individual event winners, the overall tournament winners, other honorable mentions, and distribute their respective prizes. By order of His Grace, Duke Nevin Kendrick, the tournament shall conclude in much merriment and jubilation as a symbol of appreciation to the Duchy of Ashbury, its good and just nobility, and those that protect it.

I look forward to meeting you all and partaking in the celebrations as one among the judges’ panel.

In loyalty and service,
Despona Garrick
Ducal Seneschal of Ashbury
