Ritual Question

Is it possible to cast ritual batches with both schools of rituals in them finishing with a single extend-type? There are several ways I could see doing this, but the most straightforward I can imagine would involve...

1. Cast primary school circle with 3' diameter.
2. Cast secondary school circle with 6' diameter around the first circle.
3. With all casters in the center circle, proceed with rituals.

A related question: Let's say you do this...

1. Go to existing permanent circle (let's say it's Celestial).
2. Cast a Circle of Protection spell with multiple casters around the outside of the existing permanent circle (using the opposite school, in this case let's say Earth).
3. Start casting rituals with everyone inside the permanent circle (and thus the temporary circle). The first rituals are all Earth -- let's say 2 of them, so it takes 20 minutes (and a few seconds). Once these are finished, 6 Celestial rituals are begun one after the other. During the 4th, the temporary Earth circle around the Celestial circle expires. Does this interrupt the ongoing Celestial ritual, and if not, then can further Celestial rituals be cast in the same batch?

I know this sounds complicated, but there are real-life applications for these scenarios that I am looking into doing.

Thanks

Bryan,

I will have to look this one up at home. I do believe, though, that you cannot use one extension for cross-school batches.

That's the question. There's a lot of ways one could imagine doing this, but the question really boils down to "is it intended to allow extensions on cross-school batches"?

According to the ritual it'self, it extends ALL rituals that were cast in a batch. I'll look up the batching rules after work for more information on that to see if there is wording in there that prevents it, and I will take this to the formal comittee to see if it goes against intent of the ritual. I don't think it does.

From everything I've seen and experienced, you should be able to extend both. I specifically recall discussion that this was a change from the previous edition.

You *used* to be able to do it (as I understand it) by casting, say, Earth rituals in an Earth circle, then rushing the item to a Celestial circle within a minute (the batch limit) and starting the Celestial rituals (or vice versa). However, I believe that if the item leaves the circle now, it breaks the batch (which I don't think it did before) -- thus the need for "inventive" ways to do this. If it's against the intent of the ritual rules, then I won't do it -- whatever sort of rule goes into effect to enforce it doesn't really matter. If it's not intended to be a problem, then I will do it. :)
