Hey now
I was looking forward to a reset from an OOG perspective (and I have several magic items). It makes playing a gypsy rogue so much more fun!
But since it got brought up- I don't think magic resets are good for any real reason, while they balance certain factors- they also create problems. HQ has always recommended resets along with a variety of other recommendations and I hope that anyone reading this will think a lot about what it actually is doing.
Magic items are for the most part, integral to characters and groups. The pursuit of "stuff" while not really on my list of things as a player - is inherently a part of my character's persona. A "character" in NERO is more than skills. They are "history" as well. That means ingame society, wealth, guilds, and yes items- make the entire character.
If some people played 100% to character, forcible removing them from a guild or taking their material possessions would result in catastrophic damage to who they are. Just because a item is magic doesn't exclude it from this rule.
If you don't understand how the idea works.... imagine the following:
1- A coin reset. Everyone gets put back to 2 silver.
2- A guild reset. All current guilds and groups are erased.
3- A city/campaign reset. Move the campaign. While fun sometimes, you risk loosing a lot of history.
4- A character reset. Everyone goes back to 1st level.
5- A level cap reset. Everyone over 10th, is now 10th.
In actuality, I feel that the exact problem caused by magic items (creating skills) is only a problem when handled by a rude player who doesn't want to see a fun game for everyone. If such a player exists, they should be dealt with on a one-to-one basis. I have offered on many occassions to sit out of mods because my character is higher powered, and in fact don't typically do mod days because locking anyone in a room with Balryn probably wouldn't be good for them unless they are gypsy.
Typically the lower level characters are the most affected by magic item resets. The reason most high-level characters have items is because they've taken them from adventuring or they have 10+ levels of formal magic and just whip out scrolls to make some more.
In past resets, the low to mid-level characters always seem to take the brunt of such resets- as they may have spent a good portion of the character's time getting one or two items, only to have them randomly taken away (which is discouraging to less-experienced players who have worked so hard to attain something)
I thought it was a damn funny joke however. There should have been a "reputation" or "Oh god no!" scale on the post. I could hear all the little gears turning in everyone's heads.....

P.S. Leave my stuff alone. I like it. Pretty coins and glowing swords are cool.
