Caster build

So I will be putting my main Roknar on the shelf for a bit and have had an alt getting blankets for a while. So if you had a clean slate and 250xp to spend, what build would you go for with a scholar? I’m leaning toward celestial with a bunch of high magic but can also do a full pencil on earth and celestial. Looking to be super versatile and don’t really care about damage dealing or fighting. Any super cool scholar builds goin around?

If you don’t care about damage dealing or fighting, it sounds like you don’t care about being combat support, right? Like you don’t want to run around in combat casting mend armor for example?

In that case I would focus on crafting and / or high magic. Sounds like you want to cast rituals? If yes you need a ninth level spell (I think that’s still true). Get your ninth and do all HM. Or take less HM and some crafting if that’s your jam.

They are effectively the same thing, the only question is whether it is worthwhile for you to keep going once you've unlocked formal.

Is it better to just go for the pencil or a column to get the 9th?
I'm not sure about the pencil build - is that a single ninth? As a 50+ celestial scholar who enjoys combat, I did a column with a little width on the bottom for additional level 2 mend armor. There are many combats where I don't actually fight because I outlevel them. But I will often use mend armor and protectives to make a newer player feel like a boss. If you're doing that, pyramid makes sense I think. I'm more column guy because I do like to join my team on very high level mods and bring some offense.

If you're not into combat, I would take as few spells as I could, hit that 75 build, and start collecting HM. If you'd rather play at crafting that rituals, than inscription and brewing. That will also unlock HM but without the ninth you'll be using HM for things other than rituals.
