    Niche characters

My niche character concept is the coin operated scholar. MWE with RW/RM and 4321. And 320 craftsmen or so depending on whether I go fighter for the extra body or scholar for the extra coin.

    College of wizardry LARP

They are charging enough to make some cash. I guess as long as they don't advertise it as a Harry Potter themed LARP they will be OK. But if they get enough coverage where people write about the Hogwarts LARP, then they probably will be in some trouble.

    Approved Latex weapons?

This is entirely true but usually if a weapon is safe in one chapter it is also safe in another chapter. In other words, if your weapon is safe, try not to worry too much. It's possible that a marshal in Chicago will say the weapon is fine while a marshal in Seattle will say the weapon is...

    High magic and power levels

What a mess - someone might hve to move these posts back to the other thread :) We can add spell parry although the original post in the other thread was complaining about nausea I think. The last time I got taken out of a fight it was arcane fears and arcane feebleminds by voice. The players...

    High magic and power levels

I don't want to be involved in a debate - originally I got involved (in the other thread) just to say that a fighter has 2 ways to stay in the fight longer - cloak / bane MIs and teammates. Rogues have MIs, teammates, and dodge. Templars and scholars have MIs, teammates, and high magic. Adepts...

    High magic and power levels

I'm not sure what you agree with and/or what you would agree with if high magic were the primary source of cloak/bane. But I'll take this as an invitation to elaborate anyway. A high level scholar might have a 12 block and 20 formal - good for 6 cloaks and 4 banes and a couple magic purify /...

    Progression of Power

You're right that low level fighters have trouble staying in fights. Take out effects will stop you. If you have a team, you'll want to pool purify potions - it's expensive, but you have to pay to stay in the fight. If it makes you feel any better, low level scholars and rogues and split classes...

    College of wizardry LARP

http://magischola.com/ Supposed to be 160 spots @ 375 each available through kickstarter. Not even sure where this is going down. But it seems like a potentially cool setting for a LARP.

I can make your sword and shield magical

Adventurers of the sword and board variety please express your degree of interest in the following sorcery: Your long sword with flame aura Your shield with a magic storm The magic lasts a little less than a year and should travel the mists wherever magic items go. If you want your weapons...

    October event favorites!

Hanging out with old friends. Making new friends. Doing loops and finding stuff. Dark elf barkeep with swanky crystal and yummy trail mix. Breakfast. Banter during a hold after I terminated an exploding guy (probably Tommy) "Some of us never learn." "Some of us have spellshields." Being...

    Character class interpritation

Welcome! Not exactly. You do not have to be immediately recognizable as your race. A fur cape would satisfy the rules even though people might be unsure if you are human or barbarian. To give another example, I play an elf. Before my first event I ripped up an old nasty carpet and wrapped it...

    Dual Schooling

You might consider going wide pyramid in the second school. 87654321 earth gives a celestial scholar lots of versatility and costs way less than a second school 4 block.

What can plot do to help high level players contribute to the game?

My own character story might be relevant here. I started in 1996 and the big fighter swang 12 magic. Around 12 years later I was swinging 12 magic. I was the biggest hitter one event. I realized my character should evolve into a new role. What to do now that I am big? For various reasons my...

What can plot do to help high level players contribute to the game?

I think we all agree that plot shouldn't force players. Players need choices. I think we disagree on the carrots. One of the first rules if you want someone to do something is to make sure the desired behavior is rewarded, not punished. I guess I sound like a behaviorist. They are wrong about a...

What can plot do to help high level players contribute to the game?

I think we can and should encourage mentoring without forcing or railroading. Encouragement could be a gold piece, a pat on the back from the duke, a fistful of cure lights to distribute to new players, a module, a bit of plot info, etc. To me, none of those rewards would force anyone to do...

What can plot do to help high level players contribute to the game?

I'm not sure I follow. I know I agree that railroading is bad, but rewarding certain playstyles is still good. So plot shouldn't force high levels to make sure low levels have fun, but plot should still reward high levels for making the game better for low level players.

    What is your favorite encounter?

Some of my favorites should remain top secret but one of my most memorable encounters came in a mod in which John Finnegan was playing a creature that spoke no English. We adventurers had to teach him to communicate. For the rest of the event "happy" (I think was the name) would wander around...
