    Another Cap proposal

I thought rituals were 4 build for a scholar - pretty sure they were 4 build last time I played my scholar. I think high magic was pretty new back then (at least to me). Now I go to dust off my scholar and I learn that 3 build gets me a cloak. 9 build gets me +1 wand damage plus a burst pool...

What makes combat encounters hard to scale? Who trains new characters?

I called it teamwork but social cohesion is not entirely different. Anyway I agree that scaling for social cohesion is harder than scaling for levels. I think levels are easy to scale for compared to everything on my list. On wandering monsters and wave battles, scaling for teamwork is hard...

What makes combat encounters hard to scale? Who trains new characters?

I agree with this depending on the situation. If big fighter and little fighter are working together as a team and big fighter is giving little fighter instructions to make sure that little fighter does something useful in combat, then I think scaling should be easy. Little fighter should have...

What makes combat encounters hard to scale? Who trains new characters?

People suggesting level caps have said that level disparity makes combat hard to scale. I think levels are probably one of the easiest things to overcome when scaling an encounter. I think a few things have a much bigger impact: magic items, monster abilities, OOG individual skill, and...

Why not RP over game mechanic?

I like the Aisling idea. Hopefully you add it to the spirit forge thread. If this thread is asking why we don't have more discussion threads about RP, let's start some.

Is it too hard to spirit forge and/or race change?

It came up on the thread about power disparity when MS argued that optimal builds would be more in demand if a level cap existed. A few people suggested that it should be easier for players to spirit forge or sell back certain skills. Interestingly, I remember having a similar discussion around...

    Sources of political intrigue

Unhealthy how? If you mean that people think OOG that since they have been paying and playing a while, that their character should be immune to unpleasantness, then I have two things to say. First, that would be unhealthy. Second, are we sure that's what's happening? However feeling the...

Curious on thoughts of a chapter restricting these rituals,

Edit: So you can allow only items that meet certain requirements or no restricted items at all?

Curious on thoughts of a chapter restricting these rituals,

You don't have to allow restricted magic items into your game. If you went the LCO damage aura route, the old DA ritual was less power gamey than the current one. I think someone made a +2 sword once, but most player made damage auras were +1 as you needed additional scrolls for extra damage...

    Note on opinions

I reported one of those "if that is what staff from <x> thinks I don't want to play there" posts. I thought it was off topic and argumentative. I agree that the reasons people won't visit chapter X could be useful information to the chapter staff. However, collecting that info should be done...

What can plot do to help high level players contribute to the game?

Related to the do they die enough thread (which was split from the necro thread). I don't think it matters for high level players die more, though highbies should feel challenged to achieve their goals just like everyone else at an event. In combat and some other challenges the risk of rezzing...

The Value (or Lack Thereof) of Necromancy

This is very well said. I'm not sure it's entirely relevant but I'm reminded of the old days in Ashbury where one of the noble teams was always the first into fights but also the first to run into a ward or a circle when the fight got tough. We used to make fun of them. But as far as I know...

    Sources of political intrigue

Thank you for the ideas everyone. I picked a couple to quote but enjoyed all the comments in this thread. Hi Muir. I think what you describe is what happens when the NPC nobles are all on the same side. Since there is only one side, almost every player joins that side. Doesn't matter if I like...

    Sources of political intrigue

Thank you for replying. I think rewards is a big one actually. In the chapters with the least intrigue basically the non-loot rewards are noble titles. And noble titles don't seem to come from subterfuge or intrigue. I don't know if I support changing the rules to promote social intrigue. A...

    Sources of political intrigue

One thing that I like in LARPs is political intrigue. What intrigue do we have in different chapters and how do we get more? In our Alliance games, it always seemed to me that chapters with the more rigid nobility have less intrigue. If there are no political factions, there's less politics...

Physical challenges - how have you seen them done?

I agree with people who say that physical challenges can be unfun - especially if there's one you can't do or don't feel safe doing or whatever. Not every physical challenge will appeal to every player character. That's fine. I think that when plot puts out safe physical challenges, someone...

Physical challenges - how have you seen them done?

I think we should have more physical challenges. For part of the player base it gives them a chance to shine outside of combat (although it may be that the same players who shine in combat can also shine in other physical challenges). Plus physical activity is good. It's one of the things we (I...

The Value (or Lack Thereof) of Necromancy

Having necro bypass defensives is an awesome idea. It might make drain and wither more tempting and it certainly makes fighting undead scary, and fighting undead should be scary.
