Maelstrom Library [safe]

Greetings to all residents of and visitors to the land currently known as Maelstrom.

While this may not be news for many of you, I am very pleased to announce the opening of the new public library.

The collection is extremely small at present as most books of note have been destroyed in the fall. However, we do have the following offerings:

- Found Empirical documentation from before the fall (mostly copies of original documents, though some originals are available).
- Found Vaeltarii documentation from before the fall (mostly copies, with approximate translations).
- Scouting reports and maps of the surrounding areas (updated when possible- please inquire for the most recent items).
- Written down accounts of resurrected natives' lives, homes, and cultures as far as is recalled.
- Supply stores receipts and documentation.
- A copy of the census (updated every week).
- A small selection of novels and other books for entertainment.

The library also offers the following services:

- Tutoring in reading and writing. Tutoring is freely available to anyone who wishes to learn. Literacy is possible for everyone. Speak to the clerk on duty for more details.
- Job services. If you wish to help rebuild this land and have been having difficulties finding things to do the library can help with job assignment. Any skill can be put to good use. In particular at present we are looking for stonecutters, masons, architects, miners, and anyone with cave experience as we sure up the new city and make it safe for residence. There is also an ongoing need for farmers, general laborers, and blacksmiths. Speak to the clerk on duty if you feel you can lend a hand! Even temporary visitors can help!
- Assistance services. If you have an odd job or item you require assistance with a clerk can help you find someone or you can post it publicly on the wall.
- General information. The clerks on duty should be able to answer most general inquiries or direct you to someone who can answer them in more depth.

If you are interested in helping the library, it seeks the following:

- Donations of books.
- Donations of found documents. If you wish, a copy may be made and the original can be returned to you.
- Donations of paper and ink.
- Library staff.
- Further assistance copying items.
- Further reading and writing tutors.
- A bookbinder, or other person with experience restoring and preserving rotting, damaged, and falling apart documents.
- If you are the leader of a scouting party written accounts of missions are extremely helpful. Your report can also be dictated to a clerk or a volunteer.
- If you are a native to this land and are willing to share your stories, recollections, personal history, and/or culture please write them down or dictate them to a clerk or volunteer. The fall and the resurrection leaves memory hazy and clouded and gathering all our stories together helps form patterns.
- If you are not native to this land and have stories, songs, artwork, or histories of your own lands that you wish to donate in order to foster hope please write them down or dictate them to a clerk or volunteer.
