Elven Forces Attack Capital City; Demand Surrender

Several weeks ago, a lone elf, who later identified himself as Herukan Mithrauko of Dur Namarie, came to Ashbury and walked into the tavern where His Grace Duke Aramis Lyrr was holding conference with his nobles. The elf demanded to know who was in charge and only sneered when Aramis spoke up with “Who asks?”

The elf then presented His Grace with a document entitled “Terms of Assimilation” which basically amounted to preposterous extortion demands. The messenger was challenged to honor combat by Baron Radric and quickly accepted. The combat began and Radric was unable to affect the “elf” with blows from his magical sword and quickly was given a normal weapon which was effective. After a brief skirmish where Radric was seeming to get the best of the elf, in a stunning twist, the elf turned gaseous and seemed to be heading out of town. Attempts to put a Circle of Power around it failed, but the elf decided to solidify and attack several members of Trellheim. The creature was eventually imprisoned and was being brought to the Mages’ Guild for identification when he turned into some kind of energy from within the imprison and disappeared.

Herukan again appeared on Saturday the 23rd of May, this time at the head of a force of ogres. Another elf accompanied him. The two elves stood in a Circle of Power while the ogres attacked the town. The Circle was let down at one point and Herukan slept Robert Oakwood and took him into a new Circle of Power. Within the circle, the other elf drained Robert of his life essence and Mithrauko somehow consumed one of Robert’s magic items, destroying it.

Herukan again came out of the Circle to fight against the town and was taken down by Sir Jaret, Sieghard, and others of Nordenn. The elf was being taken to the Mages’ Guild for identification when more ogres attacked and he somehow escaped by going gaseous, but not before he killing blowed the mystic wood elf known as Rune.

Herukan and his elven companion appeared again on Sunday night, this time with a larger force of ogres. The small army tromped through a nearly empty Ashbury and Luigi and Smith the Dwarf were captured. Eventually, the elves and ogres chased Baron Agnar and a few others into the Mages’ Guild Ward.

A small handful of citizens were hiding behind the ward like scared children from their nightmares. Herukan marched into the Guild building with his minions and mocked those inside as he lay Smith the Dwarf on the ground and proceeded to kill him before their eyes. He threatened to kill everyone if they did not come out.

Baron Agnar refused to lead a suicide against Herukan’s mighty force. Herukan thought upon the predicament and challenged Baron Agnar to lead the town’s forces on the field of combat in just ten minutes! With that, he Lifed Smith and marched up the hill to where he wanted the battle to take place.

The adventurers waited a few moments and then marched up the hill to find the Black Unicorns and whatever other commoners were lurking about. The Unicorns were likewise behind their Ward waiting to decide what to do. Baron Agnar ordered everyone inside to talk this whole thing out. Once inside their quarters, and cramped it was, you could hear the low moans of uncertainty coming from several adventurers.

“We can’t beat them,” someone said. It was followed by a “We are all going to die.”

Baron Agnar then made a speech that rallied the Ashbans present forces. It was gripping. “I can’t force you to fight,” it began, and near the end when he asked the question, “Is there any of you will not fight?” not a single hand was raised.

“We marched up the hill, and I remember handing out all of my scrolls to celestial casters among us,” said Squire Derek later. “When we confronted them on the field, I was prepared to die, as was many of us. We knew that we would fight this force with our lives if it meant it.”

Again Baron Agnar made a speech to Herukan that rallied the hearts of those present and lifted their spirits, giving them the confidence we needed to defeat the enemy.

Herukan hid behind his Circle afraid to face the Baron, and let his ogres and death elementals do his fighting for him. The Baron sounded the charge and all moved forward. the Ashban forces completely destroyed the first wave of attackers, taking them by surprise.

At one point, Ragnar the barbarian was captured and brought into the Circle of Power. He was drained of his life energy and allegedly tried to bribe his way out of the circle with gum. Ragnar was later tossed out of the Circle when it was let down and Herukan joined the battle.

The battle was long and fierce, with the elves calling upon regiment after regiment of ogres to attack the townsfolk. The last regiment was particularly tough, with the ogres being much more skilled in the use of their weapons. The ogres were eventually defeated and Herukan the coward attempted to escape by turning gaseous and fleeing the field. The other elf disappeared into the darkness, but Dimsdale the jester rifted in with an imprisoned Herukan. It seems several of those captured by Herukan asked for mercy on his behalf, as he had treated them honorably, and the Duke seemed about to grant the elf his life and let him return to his lands in disgrace, when Herukan again turned into blue energy from within the imprison and disappeared.

Ashbury celebrated a victory that evening, one inspired by Baron Agnar of the Ash Forest and His Grace, Duke Aramis Llyrr.

The fun and games of The Tournament was punctuated most inappropriately on Monday afternoon when one of the trees on the field began to glow with blue and white crackling energy. Those who got to close to the tree were assaulted by magical energies that caused sleep. Only elves could get near the tree, while all other races were repelled away from it.

Things got even more disturbing when Herukan, along with elven-like creatures made out of living wood, seemingly stepped out of the tree.

Herukan asked Duke Aramis if he was ready to comply with the terms of assimilation and he also asked Baron Agnar if he had yet realized he was on the wrong side. Both of the beloved nobles firmly refused the elf, and a battle ensued.

The tree creatures seemed to have the ability to put people to sleep with a touch, and did so to many of the townspeople. During the battle, Herukan deathed Azura, and it has become known that his people hate the mystic wood elves and would see them all destroyed.

The battle continued to rage as more and more of the elf creatures emerged from the tree. Herukan was taken down several times during the battle, and each time regenerated at the tree.

The cocky elf departed after telling the people of Ashbury to enjoy his “gift” of the tree. He then seemed to step into the tree and disappear.

After all the creatures were dispatched, the elves of Ashbury tried everything they could think of to hopefully return the tree to normal or destroy it, but nothing seemed to affect it.

What this “Spirit Tree,” as the elf Herukan referred to it, forebodes for the duchy is yet unknown.

In what appears to be a related incident, a small and well organized army of ogres commanded by an elf dressed in black stormed the human community of Entholm on Thursday, May 28, 598. Almost all residents of this small town were forced to resurrect, with only a few escaping the lightning fast and vicious onslaught.

There were several permanent deaths. No buildings were destroyed and no possessions were taken.

One of the victims reported that the elf told her before killing her “This is to be the fate of all those who would harm an elf.”

Ashbans Learn of Surrounding Lands

Sir Zachary Blane and Squire Scarn of Nordenn recently sent several expeditions of Nordenn troops over the Northern border of Ashbury. Many of the expeditions spoke of unnatural mists appearing and of wandering into other Baronies mysteriously—dozens of leagues from where they first encountered the mist, but none seemed to penetrate the mists to areas outside of Ashbury.

Sir Zachary and his personal expedition appears to have been far more lucky, having passed through the mists and appearing high within the mountains to our north. Turning back he could look upon Ashbury, clearly identifying the Ash Forest and Tower Hills. Almost immediately Sir Zachary’s expedition came across a strange creature fleeing from a group of other creatures. The fleeing form was that of General Chalcid su Tantakis of the Cuulanni.

The Cuulanni are a group of quilled bipeds, similar to that of a porcupine. General Chalcid supports the Queen Velvia su Dulakis of the Cuulanni and is the commander of the recently destroyed 4th Army of the Cuulanni. Cuulanni apparently is embroiled in a deep civil war between the queen and her brother who the General refers to as Jevarius su Dulakis the Usurper. The rebel faction of Cuulanni lad by the usurper is known as the su Gatakai (of the Gryphon) and is seeking to overthrow the traditional rulership of Cuulanni based upon the birth of a child in a certain zodiac sign. The sign of the salamander has always governed who will rule Cuulanni, and the Usurper is born under the sign of the Gryphon.

Sir Zachary interceded on the behalf of the general against his su Gatakai pursuers, and with the aid of his small but able troops defeated the Gatakai and offered General Chalcid sanctuary in Ashbury.

General Chalcid seems generally to the point, non nonsense, and sincerely willing to help—answering questions kindly and to the best of his ability. This was demonstrated publicly when General Chalcid appeared before His Grace, Baron Angnar, Baron Olin, Sir Jaret, and Lady Azrael in the tavern one recent Saturday evening.

Baron Agnar asked if General Chalcid was also a caster (as he carried a shield and sword). General Chalcid related that all of his people were either templars or scholars, the other classes being disdained but not inaccessible due to the Cuulanni preoccupation with astrology. General Chalcid related it was a sad time when a child showed no affinity with magic. He also explained the Cuulanni ability to hurl their spines at enemies.

Perhaps the most amazing revelation is when the General started asking questions about the “lost kingdom.” At first the General seemed convinced that Ashbury was the lost kingdom of Icenia, consumed by a great curse by the high prophet of Galanthia known as Glantri nearly 300 years ago. This occurred when, while at war, Glantri called upon a great curse to destroy the lost kingdom and it was surrounded by the mists. Icenia was a great kingdom, one of many races, which worked to support other allies and foster knowledge and wisdom throughout the continent.

The Cuulanni, greatly honoring prophecy and astrology, referred to Icenia/Ashbury as Amora Fortannis (The Heart of Fate) and said that Icenia was a great force of good on the continent—always the heart of happenings and the source of enlightenment.

General Chalcid became confused with the Ashbury explanation of the “Black Maw” that apparently placed us here and ripped us from the womb of Evendarr. His further explanation of the area lead to his drawing of a crude map. Going in a clockwise fashion Ashbury seems to be surrounded by the following countries:

Directly to the North of Ashbury is an enormous mountain range running both north and south and east to west. Among the mountains are the Wind Folk, Dwarrenagor, and the Cuulanni.

General Chalcid knew little of the Wind Folk, a kind and gentle people with a penchant for privacy. Powerful in magics, they are ancient to the people of the continent. While they do occasionally appear to aid in some good cause, little is known about them. They are extremely deadly if provoked, calling the Winds and the Mountains to their aid to crush invaders and trespassers alike.

Directly to the North are the five thanes of Dwarrennagor. Apparently several city states of dwarves have been fighting over the position of High King for nearly 300 years. The Beardslayer Wars have been fought one house against another for as long as the Cuulanni can remember. When asked why they are fighting each other, General Chalcid said they have no common enemy. When someone asked about Trolls, General Chalcid said trolls are a myth used to frighten children.

Clearly though, he had witnessed some of the fighting himself, and visibly noticed our trolls are no myth.

To the north and to the east beyond the mountains lie the two kingdoms of Glenrake and Moorgrave. These two kingdoms apparently have a Code of Chivalry similar to our own, but have been fighting each other to a stalemate for over 10 years. Nearly 8 years ago they were approached by a group of necromancers who offered Glenrake necromantic augmentations for their armies and their commanders. Glenrake, currently taking a beating from Moorgrave, accepted and raised several of the nobles to the status of Death Knight. Assembling armies of undead they attacked Moorgrave brutally and pushed their neighboring kingdom to the brink of defeat. The necromancers offered similar augmentations to Moorgrave, who accepted and pushed the wars back to a more neutral position. The two Kingdoms are still apparently fighting, and occasionally send out foraging parties to find more lesser undead for their armies.

To the east, the General identified the country of Amisara, a country controlled by a great guild structure. Amisara tends towards female leadership, due to a belief to a closer bond between women and the earth. The Cuulanni, not being a migratory people, do not know what lies beyond Amisara or the countries of Moorgrave and Glenrake.

To the southeast within the salty seas of what was once the location of Lake Hollym are the distant Isles of Vacarra. Vacarra is apparently the home to a powerful confederation of pirates that once ruled the waves of the area but are now cursed to haunt the waves.

Directly southwest the Empire of Galanthia holds power and sway over a number of city states. A slave nation far more predatory that Niman once was, it is ruled by a order of prophets. The entire nation according to General Chalcid holds an insane obsession with determining the future. General Chalcid reported that they read the entrails of slaves, throw them off cliffs to observe their screams, have a fanatical approach to astrology and prophecy.

The Galanthians have a small but powerful army called the Swords of Lore, dedicated to preserving the defense of the realm, acquiring new slaves for their masters, and sowing chaos and dissent wherever they travel. Galanthian attacks plagued the capital of Ashbury recently, seeking information and spreading fear and disorder. The Galanthians are known for the marks and sigils placed upon their faces. The Swords of Lore are known for the sword tattoos across their cheeks or brows. Apparently the Galanthians have some sort of ritual that places these Sigils upon their face, granting them spells to utilize much like a magical item. While all Galanthians seem to be tattooed in some manner it is not known if all seem to possess magical abilities. The few Galanthians that have been apprehended seem resistant to interrogation and all of human stock.

To the west of Trellhiem a great plain seems to issue forth, extending directly north of Ashbury before the mountains. The plains are riddled with abandoned villages and former allies of Icenia. Now known as the Plains of Rage, these grasslands are said to be the highway for a powerful force known as the Freejyn Horde. The Freejyn are blood thirsty killers, banded to each other by an oath referred to as the Red Rage. They have plagued the continent for several decades, and are believed to originate in a country called Harratarra somewhere to the deep south.

To the northwest is Dur Namarie. The Dur Namaries are apparently a society of elves dedicated to the genocide of all races accept their own. Apparently kin to vampires in some way, they drain magic and spirit for sustenance and have slowly expanded for thousands of years. It is rumored that their enormous land holdings dominate the middle western coast of the continent. Dur Namarie is said to be surrounded by a wall defying description, and it is said that no one has ever survived to map it all.

Dragons Compete with Aid from Adventurers

For many years, the Dragonheart Prophecy has been told and recorded in many different versions, all straying from the original vision of the early seers. Now events have occurred that have brought the Dragonheart prophecy into the foreground.

Early May, Lord Daniel Star Grimsby, Squire Azura and a team of adventurers, responding to a citizen’s cry for assistance, found underground ruins recently unearthed.

Apparently, three Deep Trolls engineers had tunneled into the citizen’s cellar, took his family hostage and forced him to help dig a widen tunnel so that a troll army may invade. During the dig, a glowing portal was discovered.

Soon after, the portal exploded in a massive flame blast that killed the Deep Trolls. The man then ran for help.

The adventurers proceeded into the cellar and then into the tunnel. There they found a flame-scarred opening. Beyond lay an ancient chamber—with a lit candle!

It was set in an elaborately carved candle holder. The image of a dragon was coiled around the its base.

Basking in the candle’s glow was a charred and weathered document. Written upon the document was the Dragonheart Prophecy in its pure form:

The Dragon Heart Prophecy:

Amora-Fortannis is both our blessing and our bane.

Master it or be mastered by it.

The seed of our paradise has been planted in Amora-Fortannis.

The land shall be groomed into the ecstasy of our design.

From the feral grip of monsters, of savages, Of beings who could not tend to Amora-Fortannis’ shaping power, Shall the land be wrested.

The dreams and sufferings of its conquerors shall be the mortar of which the land’s form be made.

A great civilization shall arise and come to glory.

Its rulers must bond with the land.

The Land and its Ruler must be one.

If the Ruler fails, the Land fails.

That is the Sacred Law.

In time this civilization shall wane.

Shadows shall appear.

Conflict within shall begin.

The glory shall be eclipsed,

The land’s leader shall fall

And a bleak winter shall be

The one, eternal season of the land.

In this time of turmoil,

Into the midst of great and growing conflict

A Dragon Heart shall finally arise to power

To become ruler of the land.

He shall bond with the land,

Unite its people in Darkness or in Light,

And shape the future of paradise.

Next, Shya Corak, while rummaging around in the Sages’ Guild, noticed a strange document left on top of the pile of papers she had been working on. Strangely, she did not put it there herself. The document was very old and spoke of The Order of the Wyrm, an ancient, mystical sect of mages working in alliance with dragons.

Apparently, the Order of the Wyrm serves as caretakers of the land. According to the Order, Ashbury rests upon a land that is alive with a destiny-shaping power, sending forth epic summons that vibrate throughout the world and brings to its breast things both breathtaking and horrific. It calls forth the miraculous and perverse. It is a drawing place, a source where great forces and heroes come together to contend for power. Left unchecked, this power is a wild and snarling beast, uncoiling disaster after disaster.

At the same time, three spirit forms appeared in Ashbury and made straight for the tavern. They were garbed in white, black and rose, respectively. The spirit-form in white, a man of long blonde hair, by the name of Alluja, appeared to be the spokesman.

He introduced them as members of the Order of the Wyrm and said that each of them represented a different faction of the Order: The Partisan Draco, (white robed), The Mal Draco (black robed), and the Cu Draco (rose robed). He introduced the other two as Sethsardon of the Mal Draco and Markovia of the Cu Draco. He said that in Ashbury, or Amora Fortannis, lay the future of Paradise. Each faction had a different view of Paradise and, in a sort of bizarre, contest, strives to win and shape Paradise according to their vision.

The Partisan Draco faction seeks a paradise where all are equal and there is eternal peace and justice. The Mal Draco factions strives for a paradise where corruption and necromancy are the currency of the world. The Cu Draco factions envisions a paradise where only the elite may enter, and all others are cast out as unworthy.

Dragons also subscribed to the different visions of paradise and worked with the faction they were best aligned with. Evidently this is an ancient struggle or contest.

Alluja said that they had come to seek champions. Apparently, the dragons of this new world had been engaged in a long war for the same reason: who will triumph and control Amora Fortannis and give shape to their version of paradise. During the fighting, the dragons unwittingly unleashed a magical backlash. From this backlash came a great storm that put the dragons to sleep and locked them in a dream prison from which they cannot themselves wake. Only two dragons from Tyrra came with the Ashbans and they were the only two dragons awake in the world. One was aligned with the Partisan Draco and the other with the Mal Draco.

Alluja said that never in the long history of the contest for Amora Fortannis has the struggle been so close to ending. With only two dragons now battling for Amora Fortannis, the outcome could be decided very soon. Unfortunately the Partisan Draco and the Mal Draco had been locked in a stalemate.

Therefore, it was their plan to find the resting place of the imprisoned dragons and then send champions forth to wake the dragons, provided that the dragons subscribed to the ethics of the faction sending forth the heroes.

Soon, the three faction representatives went off into different corners of the tavern to interview perspective champions and to answer questions. Eventually, adventurers were chosen and then led to the lairs of the sleeping dragons. The plan was for the groups to enter the dream prison of the dragon, get passed the guardians of the prison and then speak with the great beast and ascertain its ethics. And then decide whether of not to free the dragons.

When interviewed, Alluja reported that presently adventurers have woken a dragon that has aligned himself with the Partisan Draco. Adventurers have also chosen to free a dark dragon which now has aligned itself with the Mal Draco. Thus the stalemate continues. But the Cu Draco, dragonless before, has had a dragon freed for them and is now part of the faction.

The contest for paradise goes on.

Biata Stone Destroyed; Many Die; Thessi Attack Arch Guards

A biata homestone located in Safehaven has been destroyed by Thessi invaders, causing local biata to become disoriented and ill last month for a few days, and even apparently causing some deaths for those too close to the stone.

The Thessi were apparently able to accomplish this because the guards who had originally been protecting the stone had been ordered away by Baron Olin.

A “homestone” is, in biata beliefs, a place where the spirits of biata are kept, much like the elves’ Spirit Trees. The destruction of one is very difficult but when accomplished causes much damage in its wake.

Baron Olin had been upset because the biata known as Brendan was being evasive and belligerent in discussing his “army.” Brendan had been training his mercenaries for many years in preparation for what he sees as an upcoming “Gryphon War.” The mercenaries had been assigned to protect various biata enclaves and the arch in Barrowdowns (see last month’s Ashbury Times). Since the Thessi and the gryphons do not fight traditional wars, these mercenaries were taught to be elusive, sneaky, and to fight in the same manner back.

When the biata councils offered their services to His Grace last month, they ordered Brendan to also swear to the Duke and to offer some of his troops.

Baron Olin and Sir Jaret however saw that there was an army out there doing things not answerable to them, so they ordered them to Waterwood for training to fight against the trolls. Brendan objected, stating that the troops were not trained for traditional combat, but was told that he would be charged with treason if he did not obey.

Under protest, he sent his troops there, where the local General sent them to the front lines. Many of Brendan’s troops, unprepared for such battle, were killed outright, and many more went AWOL, saying “I never volunteered for this.”

Their absence from their traditional guarding places meant that this left the Archway and the stone in Safehaven vulnerable to attack. Black cloaked figures killed many of those who were left at the Arch, including Narcori Vardik of Bloodstone, but left after causing the havoc. No one is sure why. Among those prominent council members who died permanently were Samuel and Zion.

It was later determined that the General who had sent the mercenaries to their deaths had been Enslaved by the Thessi. He has since been healed and feels very guilty over his order.

Magistrates in the towns around the Archway have been very actively rounding up suspects and searching out for agents of Thessi. Many executions have been performed, and there is a sense of foreboding in many homes in the area.

This entire action has caused many problems between the biata and the nobles of Ashbury. Some council members argued that this was typical of Evendarr and just proved their point that even when given the gift of the Prophecy, offers to help, and some troops, the Evendarrians only wanted to continue to destroy the biata race. Other cooler heads, including council member Xapano, stated that this was somewhat inevitable and was partially the fault of the biata due to their past secretiveness and subterfuge.

“We are at the mercy of our forefathers,” he stated. “It has only been in the last year or so that the faction of biata including Zandar, Narcori and myself have come to prominence. We believe that lies and secrets about too many things is what has led to these sorts of situations. We have spoken nothing but the truth to His Grace and their nobles since our arrival last month with the Prophecy papers, but apparently it will take more than that to bring peace to our people.”

Others suggested that perhaps some of the nobles of Ashbury were already Enslaved to the Thessi, as this action certainly has been beneficial to the Thessi cause.

In the meantime, the search for the missing archway tablet and the stone which fits into it continue. Professor Jozlin, the stone elf archeologist who reportedly stole the items, is still at large. Any who have seen him are encouraged to come forward.

Nordenn Wins Tournament

Despite all the current problems facing Ashbury, or maybe because of them, His Grace Duke Aramis declared that the Tournament would go on as scheduled.

The Barony of Nordenn, led by Baron Olin, won this year’s Tournament, but and of the competitons were close and exciting.

Nordenn obtained a total of 40 points, winning the two Combat competitions, the Spellcaster’s Battle (won by Sir Zachary), and Entertainment. Their rendition of “Jaret and the Beanstalk” was an audience favorite.

In second place was the Black Unicorns, led by Johnny Falcon, with 33 points. They won Colors, Archery, and the Race.

Third place went to the Ducal Rangers, led by Brighthawk, who placed well in all events but won none.

In final place, one point behind the Ducal Ranegrs, was a group calling itself the Mighty Commoners. They won Riddles and the Hunt due mostly to member Corbin’s excellent puzzle solving skills. They would have placed at least third had not Corbin sadly permanently died just before the Entertainment competition. The team was unable to present anything and received a zero for that.

As usual, the superlatives for the Hunt proved most entertaining and capped off an exciting event. The winning team received a ritual scroll as a reward and all teams received financial prizes.

Troll War Continues to Rage Across Ashbury

With the fall of Blackborne, the assembled armies of Ashbury have struck back a vicious blow against the Sunless Empire. The seige and battles continue around Trollsgate, with the trolls being unmoved by the attacks sent against it.

However immediately after Blackborne fell, His Grace issued commands to the alternate base of training and attack, and the forces of nearly 1900 troops swept down from northern Trellheim and swept along the western border of the Ash Forest.

Catching nearly four regiments of trolls guarding the eastern flank of Trollsgate by surprise, members of the Ducal army slaughtered two troll regiments. The manuever was lead by Count Requin Drager, who pressed hard with Ducal forces and showed no mercy against the trolls. His Grace has named Count Requin as his Warlord and General of Ducal forces for his relentless pursuit of the destruction of our enemies.

In early May, the forces of Ashbury attacked the abandoned fortifications of the ancient keep known as Reddusk in Connor. Seized by the trolls as a staging area, forces led by His Grace defeated surface skermishers and sent several of scouts into the citadel.

Sir Jaret, Daniel, Chip, Xavier, Zatarina, Ta’Wané, and Ragnar ran through a break in the wall and slipped to the gates, pursued by troll guards and Ragnar opened the gate to allow the forces of Ashbury into attack. The forces successfully sealed all of the troll tunnels and recovered Reddusk.

His Grace has reopened one of the tunnels and has sent nearly five regiments of crack troops to attack Blackborne. Blackborne has been liberated and the trolls have withdrawn deeper underground, apparently to plan their next move.

A few weeks later, the Undoer later appeared with forces of Hammerwights to attack the capital. The Undoer fought all of Ashbury with his forces for nearly an hour before utilizing a spirit recall or some sort of transfer to places unknown. The vile mallet, clearly in the possession of a Deep Troll of enormous size, struck down Baron Olin six times as the Ashbans threw themselves at his forces with courageous abandon. This is the second time the Undoer has apparently been driven from the field. In is without a doubt that he will return until all of Ashbury lays in ruins or bends its knee to the Deep troll empire.

Local Women Adventurers Aid "Order of the White Sword"

On Saturday, May 9th, two strangers were seen wandering the town. One was an elven warrior who was dressed in black clothing and chain mail and carrying a glowing longsword. Her companion was a human man. They approached several of the homes in Ashbury and found no one inside until they reached the place where the Black Unicorns were staying. The Unicorns allowed the two travelers inside, who immediately asked where they were. When the Unicorns told them they were in Ashbury, they seemed to not have ever heard of our fair Duchy.

The woman, who introduced herself as Captain Illarion Arpana and her companion as Guardian Nikos, asked to be taken to the Thana. After seeing how confused the Ashbans were, Captain Illarion went on to explain that a Thana is a place where people in power can be found. It also has a permanent earth circle where people resurrect. The Unicorns then realized that the elven woman spoke of the Healers’ Guild, and pointed the two travelers in the direction of the Guild. On the road they found Orion, who is a member of the guild, and brought them the rest of the way.

Once in the Guild, the two met with Guildmistress Natasha. Illarion explained that the Order is a group which specifically hunts undead in the country where they are from, which is called Amisara. Illarion recounted the events leading up to finding herself and her Guardian in Ashbury. She and her group had been fighting undead. As the battle wore on they became overwhelmed and pressed back into a mist, and she lost sight of her fellow members. When the mists cleared, they found themselves in these strange lands, and no members of the order or any of the undead they were fighting could be found anywhere.

Suddenly a sword that glowed with a bright white light appeared in the Guild, floating in the air. It appeared similar to the sword Captain Illarion was carrying, only more ornate. Immediately Captain Illarion and Guardian Nikos bowed to it respectfully. Illarion explained that the members of the Order serve the Sword, which she referred to as the Sword of Liokadia.

Quickly Illarion asked the Guildmistress to assemble the “life bringers.” It is believed that this is what the sword wished. Apparently in the lands where Captain Illarion is from, women are believe to be the best choice to hunt undead because since they bring life into the world, women are the antithesis of undead.

After much discussion, the women adventurers of the town who could be gathered agreed to aid the Captain and her Guardian. Illarion instructed them to touch the floating sword. In a flash, Gilcori, Shya, Kieran, Ashen, Ta’wané, Sage, Guildmistress Natasha, Crystal, Squire Azura and Lady Azreal were gone.

When the women rifted back into Ashbury, they reported that they found themselves outside an abandoned stone tower. Once they went inside, they were confronted by undead. A terrible battle took place. Once some of the lesser undead were cleared away, a gypsy death knight was seen among the undead abominations. The women of Ashbury worked together and conquered this evil foe with no losses. Captain Illarion commended them for their bravery.

Afterwards, the women apparently met with a Life elemental and learned more about this new place, and were safely returned to Ashbury and rewarded for their assistance.

Native Mystic Wood Elves, Satyr Visit Ashbury

Several weeks ago, a satyr and two mystic wood elves entered the Dragon’s Flagon searching for other mystic wood elves, which they referred to as “The Children of Camulous.” The satyr, Eppaticus, and his companions, Lygea and Tamocles, spent much of the night talking to Azura, Baron Kelial, Guildmistress Tabitha and others.

It seems that mystic wood elves are also native to these lands. Several townsfolk, including Azura, Brentorin, Rasq and Guildmistress Kismet took the Eppaticus and company up on their offer to spend the night aboard their ship. All townspeople returned safely in the morning.

Eppaticus returned to town on Friday the 22nd of May under less than fortuitous circumstances. After resurrecting in the Healers’ Guild under the ever watchful eye of Guildmistress Natasha, Eppaticus sought out Azura. Once he found her, he explained that he had been coming into town with some of “The Children” with a race change scroll and components to offer Lupiticus a chance to become a mystic wood elf again.

It seems Lupiticus had been forcibly transformed into a raccoon scavenger last year. On their way into town, Eppaticus and the children with him were ambushed by many ogres led by a hooded figure. Eppaticus held off the forces just long enough before being killed to allow the children to escape. He then chose to resurrect in Ashbury to warn the local mystic wood elves of what had happened.

Early the next morning, Eppaticus met with Azura, Lupiticus, Sir Jaret, Rune, Baron Olin, Smith the Dwarf, and several others of the barony of Nordenn. He brought them to the spot where he had been ambushed the night before. From there, it was easy for Azura to track a large force of heavy footed humanoids to a ship anchored just offshore. The group boarded the vessel to find themselves facing about 50 ogres and a large bone golem wielding a magic sword. A bloody battle ensued, and the heroes from Ashbury emerged victorious. The race change scroll and components were retrieved, as well as a magic sword that was being wielded by the bone golem. The ship was also quite well made and will make a strong addition to the fleet.

Upon returning, the victorious group joined the Tournament. With the permission of the Duke, Eppaticus put down a circle and race change Lupiticus successfully back to a mystic wood elf. Eppaticus was again in town the next day, battling side by side with the town against the horror that is the Undoer.

School Exercise Becomes Death Knight Battle

When patrons dropped into the Dragon's Flagon recently for something cool to drink, they found the Half Orc sisters Sage and Thyme sitting in front of a group of men who were questioning them about military matters. It seems that the combat oriented young ladies were taking an entrance examination for the Nordenn Military Academy and the men were professors from the school.

One of the main questioners was a tall and gruff gentleman who gave his name as Professor Whuparse. Many of the questions were most difficult, and even former army member Lady Alyx was heard to comment uopn the difficulty of the test. The young women were visibly sweating but they managed to pass the verbal portion of the test.

The Professor then announced, with a rather nasty grin, that it was time for them to take the “practical part” of the test.

He told them to gather some of their friends from the Barony of Nordenn and to meet him outside the Tavern. He said that some second year students at the school had agreed to be the defenders of a building and the applicants were to be the attackers. The “prize” was a paper which would say that the applicants had passed. Real weapons were to be used but that there were to be no killing blows, no Death spells and (naturally) no illegal spells thrown. He said that he would go with the group from Nordenn to act as a Proctor.

The battle proceeded fine at first but then some of the “defenders” started casting necromancy. The Professor started to yell at them, telling them that this was not what they had been ordered to do. The attackers persisted and were winning but as each “defender” fell he or she turned into a Death Knight with the great powers for evil that such creatures have.

Then the Professor began to writhe and scream and suddenly he turned into some terrible Death Creature also. Things did not look hopeful for the Nordenn group. The monsters began to use fear attacks and Sage was struck by one. She ran from the combat but as soon as she was out of range she was able to think clearly again and she make a militarily sound but also a very brave decision.

She yelled at one of her companions who she knew to be fleet of foot and sent him to the tavern for help, as she said she knew he could run much faster than she could. Then she returned to the battle.

There she saw her sister Thyme fighting a creature that she was not strong enough to effect. Sage immediately attacked the creature to give her sister a chance to escape. Instead, the courageous Thyme continued to fight because, she said, while the creature was being hit by her it couldn’t attack her sister. Their holding action lasted long enough for the townspeople to come to the rescue.

Once the group of more powerful fighters and spell casters had arrived they made quick work of the Death Knights. The “Professor” was killed but this death expelled the creature that had taken over his body and turned him back into his human self again.

The letter that said that the students were accepted had been torn up by the monsters but Sage and Thyme brought it to the Professor who said that there was no doubt in his mind that they had the right stuff to be students at the Academy and he had not intended the opposition to be quite so strong. It is still unknown as to the reason this occurred.

Boogeyman Attacks

The Lord of Nightmares, also known as “the Boogeyman,” appeared with his minions “the booglings” late one night recently to spread his horrid fears upon Ashbury. The first to encounter them were Calis, Luigi and Gilwing. Calis parlayed a bit with the Boogeyman, but was soon surrounded and was forced to retreat and gather the town’s forces.

He then began to apprehend fallen victims into his nightmare world. The first party taken consisted of Squire Azura, Sir Zachery, Sir Dugal, Lord Daniel, and Calis. They were taken to a werewolves’ den.

The next night, the Boogeyman came again forcing another group of individuals to live the nightmares. This time around the adventurers had to deal with a vampire and his minions but were once again successful.

Sage's Guild Gets New Resources

Lady Alyx Attleborough, Arch Wizard of Legend and Lore and Guildmistress of the Ashbury Sage's Guild, armed with a letter of permission from Professor Turlough Kuranes and accompanied by Robert Oakwood, Arch Wizard of the Common Man, visited the Bardic College recently.

The Librarian there gave her permission to do research in the Bardic College Library and both she and Arch Wizard Oakwood were thrilled to see all the books that were there. "Why there must be thousands and many that I have never read!" she reportedly exclaimed.

She was especially pleased with the arrangement because this will allow her to better do research for any adventurers who are seeking information, even about this new world we find ourselves in.

The Sage’s Guild also announced that they were offering the following services:

• Books for sale. Prices vary depending on the expertise of the scribe who worked on the book and whether the book is a important for the information contained therein or merely an historical curiosity.

• Expert scribes who can turn your written book into an illustrated, illuminated and calligraphed volume.

• Velum for sale.

• Will sell your book on commission.

• Other Services: Wards, Protective and Blade Spells; Rituals cast by Arch Wizard Attleborough who has Celestial Ritual Magic to the Fifteenth Level of Proficiency.

• The following subjects are also taught: Reading and writing, Reading Magic scrolls, Celestial Magic casting to the ninth level of difficulty, Celestial Ritual Magic, scroll making, First Aid, Healing Arts and Earth Magic casting to the fourth level of difficulty.

Baron Radric Challenges Duke Aramis to Honor Combat

Last month, this notice was placed throughout Ashbury, posted in public meeting places and read by heralds:

May 15, 598

Nobles and Citizens of Ashbury,

Twelve days ago I was perhaps the proudest man in the Duchy, serving the finest leader within the entire realm. Although the Barony of Trellheim is threatened by two new enemies and wages a war of survival against the Deep Trolls, I never lost faith. I knew the citizens and nobles of Trellheim would persevere and succeed, no matter how bleak the situation might become. My loyalty and the citizens' strength was forged through a single man, Duke Armis Llyrr. However, the recent actions of my Liege Lord have left me removed of both devotion and honor.

I do not know exactly what occurred in Ashbury City after I departed, but this because Duke Aramis Llyrr believes it is not important to inform me of his latest rulings. Duke Aramis Llyrr feels he is well within his rights to banish my Squire, strip my Knight of his title, and not inform me of his misdeeds. I gave His Grace two weeks to send word or explanation for his unsavory actions, but instead I am treated with disrespect and silence.

Coming from a man who personally championed my honor against Duke Adrick Voltan, I stand in awe wondering how he could act with such injustice and contempt.

I honestly believe Duke Aramis has been replaced and an impostor currently dictates the agenda of the Duchy. My real Liege Lord would never act with such gross inequity, and offer no explanation to myself or the citizens of Trellheim. I call upon the Paladins and Barons of Ashbury to consider reviewing the actions and identity of Duke Aramis Llyrr, since he has shaken the very foundation of the Duchy. I do not challenge the rulings against my Squire and Knight at this time, but I do seek recompense for the fresh scar that now mars my Barony's honor.

Although I am below the station of Duke Aramis Llyrr, I openly challenge him to Honor Combat. The Duke's word is final, but I seek to redeem some of Trellheim's honor through personal combat. The real Duke Aramis would never hide behind the letter of the law and avoid my challenge, because he is a true warrior and he respects the rights of Honor Combat. However, I appear to be a poor judge of character at this time and I should temper my assumptions with more resolve.

In summary, if I must die defending my Barony's name, that is my destiny. I remain a faithful servant of the Duchy and my Oath of Fealty intact. However, the words decency and justice hang thick about my tongue, with a bitterness not easily forgotten. It is not my right to challenge the Duke's rulings, but it is my noble right to seek satisfaction upon the field of combat.

Faith and Fidelity,

Baron Radric Hellfax

Lord General of Trellheim

Within a week, the following response was likewise posted:

20 May 598

Baron Radric,

You have broken my heart.

Though I do not tolerate insubordination in the ranks, I do encourage sincere questions when my orders or actions are not understood. However, such questioning is to be conducted in a respectful, civilized fashion, not performed by rudely pasting such questions on every wall, post and tree in the realm. Why did you choose this public forum and not come to me personally?

I need not explain my actions to my nobles, just as you, Lord Baron, need not explain anything to your knights and squires. But had you come to me and asked, I would have gladly explained.

What truly troubles me most about your actions is not that you have insulted me or challenged my worthiness as ruler—that I can bear. . .a little critique now and again keeps a ruler humble—but I find it disturbing that in these dire times, when our duchy has been invaded and is beset by multiple forces and all our lives are threatened, you choose to create turmoil and dissension within our own ranks because I punished a criminal for his crimes, a noble for his gross insubordination and utter disrespect towards his liege, and then did not “explain” myself to you. As a military man, Baron Radric, you of all people know the danger and ill wisdom of this and as a noble, you should know better.

Let us reflect upon the men you are “defending” and the man you are “attacking.” Modi Ioki and Hanson the commoner shall be your downfall. As you have told me, shamefully last October, they had smuggled in, without your knowledge, and maintained a vile creature of Chaos within our beloved duchy! You had failed to punish them for this. Modi was given a clean slate, a second chance and chose to cast that away in the name of greed and evil by robbing a royal guild. The Mages’ Guild, like the rest of the duchy, is cut off from the Kingdom and cannot replenish itself.

Hanson the commoner, as a noble, had offended many of the high nobles of the kingdom and those of our allies. I have watched many a time Hanson overspeak you, his Baron and liege, at our meetings. He failed to be a shining example of nobility and got his just rewards. And these are the men who cause you now to turn against your Duke and the good of the duchy and cast away your noble title.

As a noble, you must first and foremost put the good of the realm before all else when determining your actions.

I am trying to defend our lands and win a war against ever-increasing enemies. Your actions have now made my task doubly hard.

Therefore, if you insist on this ill course, I can not and shall not shrink from Honor Challenge but you shall pull my attentions from the war.

I urge you to reconsider, but if you still choose to embark upon this foolish road, I shall meet you in Honor Combat whenever is most convenient for you.

Yours in Truth, in Honor,

Duke Aramis Llyrr

Message From His Grace

Good People of Ashbury,

As I travel through the streets of the city, I see a fading glow in the eyes of the people that are so like the embers of a dying campfire. It is the sunset of hope in the people’s spirit, born out of fear and desperation. Two hostile empires from without and one from beneath the very ground beset us. Enemy agents move through the darkness like wraiths and take people without warning.

My dear beloved people, take heart, for the heroes of Ashbury have risen to meet the increasing threats and have emerged victorious in the face of overwhelming odds. These champions, whose courage is the very fabric of legends, have come together to stave off the coming night with the bright, fiery light of their bravery. Therefore, despair not the coming gloom but rage and give cry for sunlight and together we shall pull forth the dawn of peace!

It is not in our make up to fail.

The empire of Dur Numarie, it seems, has been soliciting the elves of Ashbury and it appears that they have gotten to some. While I will not force anyone’s loyalty (for loyalty in its pure essence cannot be forced, only inspired), I wish to say my piece on this matter. I have spent my time growing up among elves. My father was a Quentari nobleman. I was raised in the household of Princess Lillian and my Lord Chancellor Xanthus has been my mentor since I was very young. I have always found the elves to be life-aspected, defenders of what is pure in Nature. The elves of Dur Numarie are life-stealers and seem to me to be the corrupted form of the graceful essence of true elves.

I was once stationed in a land that was rich with breathtaking art, fancy culture and successful enterprise. You could walk the bejeweled streets of its cities and see marvels. But then you turn another corner and suddenly meet the eyes of one who’s broken spirit has all but died and lives on only because instinct tells him to. His shoulders are slouched with shame, back bent with the weight of hopelessness. He moves lethargically with scarred and bruised limbs. The sight of such a one is heart wrenching, but the sight of thousands of such beings is more than any good heart can bear.

The place I speak of is the Duchy of Niman and the broken people are their slaves.

All of us deserve a beautiful, glorious culture and the peace to enjoy it. But at what cost do we attain this? Anything bought with the price of another’s suffering or lack of free will is a tainted thing, no matter what wondrous embroidery covers the form. The truest and most dangerous evil is subtle and sweetly coated. It has the power to tempt even the most noble of spirits. Never forget that.

Therefore I will continue to resist such evil, no matter what gifts it seeks to lavish upon me or whatever powerful numbers it hurls against me. I ask that you all do the same.

I will never surrender Ashbury to an outside force.

I will stand proudly defiant and fight until my permanent death. I invite all those of good heart to join me in this righteous stance.

Now, more than ever, is the time for unity.

Yours in Truth, in Honor,

Duke Aramis Llyrr

Magistrate's Report

I have overseen quite a few petty cases in the last few months. Among those I have tried are a number of Fist members who were uncovered and brought to justice by now-Lord Daniel Grimsby, as well as some slavers who apparently are now working for our new neighbors to the south, who were brought to me by Baron Kelial and his court. I thank them all for their good work in fighting against injustice and evil, and obviously encourage others to bring criminals to the attention of myself and Sir Larson.

The case that of course has attracted the most attention is that of ex-Squire Modi of Trellheim. Many witnesses at the trial apparently did not understand or hear what was happening, and rumors have arisen claiming that His Grace and I somehow banished an innocent man. This is far from the truth.

The theft of scrolls and items from the Guild could only have been done by one who was Invested in the Guild, as items were stolen from behind a Ward and inside of the Circle. The possibility that someone could have spirit walked in would not explain how that person would have been able to leave the Circle to steal other items and then exit from behind a Ward.

The only person currently Invested in that Circle other than the Guildmasters, all of whom are known and highly recommended from the Royal Guild (and only two of whom were present in Ashbury that day), was Modi.

Although I was not allowed to take his past crimes into account when sentencing him, it should be remembered that he had been convicted of multiple murders in the past and had been given a “suspended sentence” on some of them. He had been and continues to be a suspect in other crimes in which there was not enough evidence to convict. In addition, he had summoned a Chaos Elemental and an Order Elemental last fall and had hidden this information from his liege. Further, he had lied to the Guildmasters by claiming to be a celestial caster when, in fact, he had spirit forged himself into an earth caster. His history of and reputation for dishonesty and duplicity was certainly a factor in deciding whether to believe his claim of innocence.

His sentence of a death and banishment is certainly consistent with a charge of Treason, especially where the criminal shows no remorse. If Modi were to admit his guilt and return the stolen items, His Grace would in all likelihood remove the banishment and allow him to return.

Some people have put forward possibilities as to how else the theft could have occurred—a strange new being rifted in and stole the item and so forth—yet alternative theories with no evidence to support them and little chance of their occurring do not constitute evidence.

Even so, when faced between two possibilities—one with a great chance of being true and one with a small chance—it would be intellectually foolish to go with the small possibility.

It should also be pointed out that one fellow present claimed to have committed the crime himself, thus throwing some confusion into the trial, and later claimed to have been controlled by some biata, but no evidence was found to substantiate either claim, as the man was obviously either lying or insane. He was placed under arrest for lying to a noble, but he escaped and is now wanted.

Normally I do not go into such detail in explaining why a case was decided, but Modi’s case has touched off some protests, including one from his Baron. I hope my explanation can put these problems in the past, and I hope all Ashbans realize that criminals in Ashbury, when found guilty, can expect to pay the penalty provided for in the laws without regard as to whether they are commoners, nobles, or squires.

Message From the Sheriff

Although I too feel that the hate group known as FOIL is an element which shames this fair land, comments I have heard about Ashbury are forcing me to issue this statement. To this date there has been no evidence provided to accuse FOIL of acting outside of the law. Racism is not illegal, nor is voicing one’s opinion.

Any and all crimes committed against any member of FOIL will be treated in the same manner as they would against any citizen. I will not tolerate any illegal actions to be taken just because the beliefs of this group are disliked. If there is evidence to show that a FOIL member has broken the law, then I expect evidence to be given to me as soon as possible.

Sir Larson Kirkby

The Corner of Chivalry

A few announcements need to be made. First, the adventurer and former Knight of Trellheim known as Hanson is no longer a Noble of the land. His titles have been stripped away from him for conduct unbecoming a Noble and failure to follow Ducal orders.

On a more pleasant note, we are proud to announce the elevation of three brave and good individuals to Nobility. Jonathan Dragonhart and Daniel Grimsby of Blythedale, as well as Dugal McEwan of Nordenn, have all demonstrated themselves to be worthy through devotion to the Code and to the Duchy. All should know these men to be Lords of the Duchy of Ashbury, and accord them congratulations and the proper respect. We welcome their companionship and hard work in the duties they now hold.

Finally, with the changes that have occurred and the new faces seen about the capital, we would like to make ceratin that all Ashbans know the duties of the Paladins. We exist not only to judge the Squires as potential Lords, but to serve as an institution the people of Ashbury can turn to in times of discord with the Nobles. Please know that we are available should there be such difficulties.

The Paladins of Ashbury

Letters to the Editor

I want you all to know what a great hero Sir Jaret is. One Saturday night we was all walking back to the manor house. Me, Zura, and Jaret got separated from our team. When we got to the corner of the big building, we saw a big crackling black and green form and lots of undead. We all yelled for help and ran in the other direction. But they caught me. I got paralysed. Then they caught Zura and paralysed her too. Jaret got away.

I am not sure what happened next, the undead turned and went back the other way. I think they was fighting Olin and Tasha. Jaret sneaked back up the hill, and fought the undead guarding me and Zura all by himself. He got Zura and dragged her into the woods to hide her. Then he sneaked back up the hill, again, and got me. He hid me in the shadows and tried to sneak further up the hill to find Tasha and Olin, but there must have been undead cause he came back and dragged me into the woods too and hid me with Zura.

Then, a little later, I saw him pushing an undead Tasha, who was carrying a dead Olin, down the hill towards town. The undead bad guys was right behind him. When he got to town every one got healed and the undead guys was killed. He hid me and Zura so good that even the town people walked right past us, ‘cept the Black Unicorns. Jaret came back and told them he put us there. Then we got released.

Sir Jaret is one of the bravest men I know. He saved all four of our lives. He is a hero.

Sage Redbeard

I am writing this in response to a little piece of foul “journalism” reported in Miss Sue D’Onym’s gossip column.

It has been implied that my liaison with Brentorin is an indication that “the Ashbury Mages’ Guild was really just the ‘Permanent Trellheim Celestial Circle’.”

I personally resent this implication that I favor any one person or team, noble or commoner when it comes to dealings with the Mages’ Guild and my duties. I want to make it perfectly clear to everyone that I have always been able to separate between my personal life and my professional life.

People I choose to spend my personal free time with are my own business, and shall not conflict with the Guild.

I also very much despise the idea that certain people have this absurd idea that I am controlled by anyone. I assure you that such is not the case. If these are your feelings, I invite you to speak to me about them to my face in person as a person of honor would do.

To anyone thinking of joining the Mages’ Guild, we welcome you to come and speak to us in person to get a gauge of how this new incarnation of Ashbury Mages’ Guild shall operate. I am sure that Guildmistress Kismet, Guildmaster Nikias, and I will prove that such completely ridiculous rumors are untrue.

May the stars and moon guide you,

Guildmistress Tabitha Cayne

I wish to apologize to all of you for my actions in the Spring of 596. By the wisdom of the Paladins, I have been found guilty of Ritual Assault and Malicious Theft, in addition to violations of the Code of Chivalry, with regard to the casting of the Destroy Celestial Magic Ritual upon Algar Winterwind. I accept these judgements against me unreservedly as my mistakes in this matter were clear.

I hope that my poor judgement will serve as an example to you all of how good intentions can become violations of the law when one allows emotion control over action.

May all nobility and squires of Ashbury learn from my errors and maintain a higher standard of conduct than I was able to achieve.

Long Live Duke Aramis Llyrr.

Laurelin Goldsong Valestia

Obituary

It is with sad duty that I inform the citizenry of Ashbury of the death of Corbin. He was a brave warrior who died while defending the Royal Guild and Guildmistress Kismet. He gave his life so that she might live. I have often fought with him in the past and have nothing but admiration for him and his fighting prowess. He was never afraid to fight and always heeded the battle call when it summoned him. He will be missed by many. Never have I buried one of my own people, but on this 28th day of the fifth month, I buried Corbin in the Caves of the Whispering Wind.

A Little Birdie Told Me

by Sue D’Onym

Spring is here and romance is in the air!

Felice the Sarr was seen cozying up to a new Sarr in town. This little kitten apparently has kittens of her own! It seems she believes that the father of her brood is none other than Rasq!

Guildmistress Natasha and Guildmistress Tabitha seem to have taken quite a liking for each other if you know what I mean. Wonder how Sir Ivan will feel about that?

Speaking of MWEs, Squire Azura was seen staying on the Boat of the new Mystic Wood elves, or rather the Children. Rumor has it that all she did was talk to them! Can you believe it? Seems she has committed herself to Daniel Grimsby. He supposedly asked her to be with only him. Now if only Tavernier thought of asking her that.

Speaking of soon-to-be-Sir Daniel, Baron Kelial was heard trying to persuade his ex-Squire to become a MysticWood elf. A few days later, Zandar was trying to convince him to become a biata. Maybe Daniel might just like to stay human, folks—it is possible.

During the Week of Rain in early May, BrightHawk and Nihilius sat by the fire to dry their soaked moccasins. Nihilius was so entranced talking to BrightHawk that his shoes caught fire and he was seen jumping into the Dragon’s Flagon fountain (say that three times fast!).

And why did His Grace Duke Aramis remove Brighthawk from her position as commander of the Ducal Rangers? Was it because she refused the order from Baron Agnar of the Ash Forest to join in the fight? Inquiring minds want to know.

The local gypsies had a party in the Dragon’s Flagon a few weeks ago and all the local gypsies who were in town were there, including Salvatore, Findrago, and Ta’Wané—well, they were all there except Natasha who, according to Ta’Wané, isn’t a “real gypsy” anyway. Meow!

The Black Unicorns held a great party during the Tournament that put the gypsy party to shame. During the party, Duke Aramis (in between dancing lessons from Baite) married Cormack to Kiren. Even Smith was seen dancing the night away, but that may have been from all the dwarven ale he put away.

The Unicorns and Calis will have to watch themselves though—it seems they both turned in “a necromantic potion” as one of the Hunt items. Sir Eros said the item was just put there as a joke.

That’s all the room I have this month. Keep those rumors coming in and remember: If you can’t say something nice about someone, come sit by me.
