Sewing it is one way. There are a ton of ways to "fuse" fabric together with glue, iron on sticky sheets, etc. Also, purchasing it from a pro is a good option for best quality, but also has it's own cost.

You should be aware that you can pay a smith of sufficient skill to work materials in such a way to be resistant to Shattering. The process is called strengthening and the extra material cost is several gold, but it's better than being caught naked in the field of battle. Hunter Davion
